Shop when and where you want, with the card that gives you an upgrade to EFTPOS.

Pay direct from your account from anywhere.

The SBS Debit Mastercard® is like an upgrade to your EFTPOS card. Just like an EFTPOS card, you use the funds in your linked SBS account instead of credit. But it also gives you all the flexibility of the Mastercard® network in stores, online, on your mobile, and overseas.

Shop everywhere

  • Make purchases in-person at retail stores using the funds in your SBS account, just like an EFTPOS card.
  • You can go contactless, or insert your card and enter your PIN.
  • You can use your SBS Debit Mastercard® online and over the phone.
  • You can use your card overseas, wherever Mastercard® is accepted (currency conversion charges apply on international transactions, including overseas online suppliers).

Access your cash

  • You can use your card to withdraw cash from your SBS account at any ATM machine in New Zealand.
  • You can also use it to withdraw local currency at 1.8 million ATMs around the world. (Currency conversion charges will apply.)

Built-in security

  • Your card has chip and PIN protection.
  • Contactless payments have a limit of $200.
  • We monitor your card’s use to protect you against fraud. If we block a transaction that is legitimate, please call us immediately on 0800 727 2265 (or +64 3 211 0700 from overseas) and we can release the payment for you.


Lost your SBS Debit Mastercard?

If your card is lost or stolen, call us immediately on 0800 727 2265.

If your card is definitely gone forever, we’ll cancel it to make sure no one else can use it. 

If you think you might have just misplaced your card, let us know and we’ll lock it temporarily, just in case.

  • If you find your card, we can unlock it for you.
  • If you can’t, we can cancel that card permanently and order you a replacement. See below for more details.


Transaction disputes

If you don't recognise a transaction on your statement, or notice unauthorised transactions have occurred on your account, you'll need to let us know within 30 business days of your Statement Closing Date.

You will need to complete a Dispute Notification form. If you need help completing the form, please call us on 0800 727 2265.
Once you've filled it out, email it to info@sbsbank.co.nz

Things you need to know

We may need to get in touch if we need more information about your Dispute Notification.

If you dispute a transaction on your statement and we decide that it was a correct transaction, we might charge you a $15 Disputed Transaction Fee. Please see our Fees and Charges page for more information.

How to order a new or replacement card.

Your first Debit Mastercard with SBS Bank is free.

A $10 fee may apply if you need to order a replacement card. See our rates and fees page for more information.

You must be at least 16 years old* and have a compatible SBS account, such as a low-fee Lite transactional account.
